RELATIONSHIP CHART

This is a chart to plot relationships in your family tree. For ease of display, descendants are assumed male. (For Female side just read daughter for son, niece for nephew etc.)

        1.) From the top left corner of the chart, start with the CLOSEST Common Ancestor box.
        2.) Look across the top of the chart, to find the relationship of descendant No.1 to the common ancestor.
        3.) Check down the left side of the chart find the relationship of descendant No.2 to the common ancestor.
        4.) Now go down the column of descendant No.1's until you meet the row where descendant No.2 intersects.
            The relationship in that box, is the relationship of descendant No.1 to descendant No.2.

Removed means, to remove one generation. So if you and John are 2nd cousins once removed that means that your parent (one generation) and John are 2nd cousins. And your child and John are 2nd cousins twice removed because your child's grandparent (two generations) and John are second cousins.
