and in 1881 (also with brother William) as woodturners.
Later he was recorded as a Grocer in Tarbolton after marrying Jane Hopkins.
John inherited the 'Gregg Fiddle' from his father William Gregg P489. The fiddle was passed down to John's daughter Mary P509 (John having no sons).

Mary inherited the 'Gregg Fiddle' from her father John Gregg P507. After Mary's death, her husband Alan Carswell P510 gave it away to a friend (James Niven), who eventually gave it to John Weir (Chairman of Bachelors Club Tarbolton). J Weir presented it to the National Trust for Scotland in 1997 via Wallace Galbriath(Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra leader).
